Willkommen im Hardrock-Café. Es liegt im Untergeschoss des weltberühmten Morrison Hotels und die Eingangstüren stehen zur erweiterten Wahrnehmung sperrangelweit offen. Nie war es leichter, sich dem Dionysischen in der Rockmusik zu nähern als mit diesem straff komponierten und ausgeformten Album, das kaum Durchhänger aufweist. Morrison sang kontrolliert und gab dennoch emotional überzeugend den Spion im Haus der Liebe auf der Suche nach der Königin der Schnellstraße, Kriegers Blues-Gitarre klang wirklich gut, Manzareks Piano honkytonkte rhythmisch und richtige Bassisten hatte man sich auch geleistet. Dementsprechend besteht das Album von vorne bis hinten aus Ohrwürmern und potenziellen Jukebox-Hits, den Rausschmeisser am Schluss inklusive. Die Doors hatten diesmal ihre subversiven Irrationalismen heimtückischerweise als (beinahe) traditionellen Rock 'n' Roll kostümiert. Was beweist, dass sie doch eher Romantiker waren als Klassiker, auch wenn sie bei Morrison Hotel dem Olymp verdammt nahe kamen. --Carl-Ludwig Reichert

Konsequent rüde wie selten zuvor stellten die Doors, die seinerzeit längst zu einer Skandal-Band und exzessiven Live-Attraktion geworden waren, das Morrison Hotel auf den Kopf. Dabei setzten sie voll auf die brachiale Gewalt ihres herben Hardcvore-Blues.

Mit Morrison Hotel kehrten die Doors 1970 zurück zum guten alten Rock und verbanden gleich noch Einflüsse aus dem Blues mit mysthischen Anklängen. Obwohl das Album selber keinen große Hit enthielt brachte es viele Fans zurück zur Band und gilt als eines der besseren Alben. Titel wie "Waiting for the Sun" aber auch der Party Song "Roadhouse Blues" wurden bekannt und "The Spy" gab schon früh einen Eindruck von der Musik die später im Album L.A. Woman folgen sollte.

Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue enthält zwei Bonus Tracks die 2007 von Bruce Botnick und den überlebenden Doors neu abgemischt wurden.

Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue erscheint als 24-Karat-Gold CD mit zusätzlicher HDCD Codierung. Die CDs haben fortlaufende Seriennummern auf dem Schuber.

"Morrison Hotel", The Doors' fifth album released in 1970 opens a new chapter in their history - gone were the psychedelic trimmings of the first two albums and the commercialism of the last two. "Morrison Hotel" is distinctly stripped down, and edgier.  On this album, there is a slight steer toward blues even though no major hit singles were drawn from the album, Morrison Hotel peaked at #4 on the US album chart, and also became the band's highest charting studio album in the UK, where it peaked at #12.

This is the next-to-last Doors album, recorded prior to Jim Morrison's death.  Morrison is at his peak, and his lower voice is a nice change of pace from the other shreiking hard rock singers of the day.

Although "Morrison Hotel" embraces a new sound, all the elements of the Doors are firmly in place; Jim Morrison's soulful baritone, John Densmore's jazzy percussion, Robbie Krieger's bluesy guitar, all the while peppered with Ray Manzarek's wholly unique signature organ and piano.
Additional musicians include harmonica whiz G. Puglese (aka John Sebastian) and blues master Lonnie Mack on bass.

The album contains 2  Doors all-time favorites BONUS tracks -- "Waiting for the Sun"  and "Ship of Fools" from the 40th Anniversary mixes by Bruce Botnick and The Doors.

The Doors returned to crunching, straightforward hard rock on Morrison Hotel, an album that, despite yielding no major hit singles, returned them to critical favor with hip listeners. An increasingly bluesy flavor began to color the songwriting and arrangements, especially on the party'n'booze anthem "Roadhouse Blues." Airy mysticism was still present on "Waiting for the Sun," "Queen of the Highway," and "Indian Summer"; "Ship of Fools" and "Land Ho!" struck effective balances between the hard rock arrangements and the narrative reach of the lyrics. "Peace Frog" was the most political and controversial track, documenting the domestic unrest of late-'60s America before unexpectedly segueing into the restful ballad "Blue Sunday." "The Spy," by contrast, was a slow blues that pointed to the direction that would fully blossom on L.A. Woman.
