"Niemals langweilig" könnte man "never a dull moment" wohl übersetzen. Rod Stewart produzierte sein viertes Album 1972 selbst und die Kollegen der Faces gingen ihm zur Hand. Das war zu einer Zeit als Rod Stewart der wohl beste britische Rocksänger war und er es schaffte Folk und Rock zu verheiraten und mit seiner rauhen Stimme auch den einfachsten Melodien eine Seele einzuhauchen.

Dies war das letzte Album bevor Rod Stewart ein Superstar wurde und sich mit glitzernden Jogginganzügen und blonder Haarpracht der Lächerlickheit preisgab. Nie wieder sollte er derartig überzeugend rocken und ein so überzeugendes Album vorlegen. Wer den alten Rod Stewart noch einmal erleben möchte und bei "True Blue" bereits verspürt, dass Stewart schon wußte worauf er sich einlassen würde, der ist hier richtig.

Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue erscheint als Gold-CD mit zusätzlicher HDCD Codierung. Für die Verpackung hat sich Audio Fidelity etwas ganz besonderes ausgedacht: Die CD kommt in einem Single-Jewel-Case und beiliegend ist eine Replica der Originalverpackung mit (fast) der gesamten Band in einem Fußballtor. Wer möchte kann seine CD stilecht in diesem Cover unterbringen. Auch diese CD ist auf dem Einband fortlaufend nummeriert.

Wer Lust auf mehr von diesem Sound hat, der sollte sich das Audio Fidelity Album der Faces mit Rod Stewart als Sänger gönnen.

Before he became part of the world of blonde-spiked hair and colorful jumpsuits, Rod Stewart created a handful of magnificent records using an eclectic mix of rock, British folk, soul, blues and country, including his fourth album, 1972's, "Never A Dull Moment".  It is Stewart's hardest-rocking album up to this point - he was at the top of his form singing from his soul and not his image.

This recording stands aside "Every Picture Tells a Story" as the twin- peak achievements of his career, it is a stunning collection containing his trademark acoustic-electric mix of instruments and bluesy vocals - lots of mandolin, acoustic guitar, slide, and slightly fuzzy leads courtesy of Ron Wood.

There are great original songs here, including "True Blue" featuring all of his his Faces' mates. Some of the best tunes are covers of Dylan, Sam Cooke, Hendrix and a masterful interpretation of Etta James', "I'd Rather Go Blind".

The album hit # 1 in the UK and reached #2 in the US. "You Wear It Well' and "Twisting the Night Away", were huge international single hits.

Back in the day, Rod Stewart was, quite simply, the best rock singer in the world - this CD never disappoints, it has no dull moments.

Essentially a harder-rocking reprise of Every Picture Tells a Story, Never a Dull Moment never quite reaches the heights of its predecessor, but it's a wonderful, multi-faceted record in its own right. Opening with the touching, autobiographical rocker "True Blue," which finds Rod Stewart trying to come to grips with his newfound stardom but concluding that he'd "rather be back home," the record is the last of Stewart's series of epic fusions of hard rock and folk. It's possible to hear Stewart go for superstardom with the hard-rocking kick and fat electric guitars of the album, but the songs still cut to the core. "You Wear It Well" is a "Maggie May" rewrite on the surface, but it develops into a touching song about being emotionally inarticulate. Similarly, "Lost Paraguayos" is funny, driving folk-rock, and it's hard not to be swept away when the Stonesy hard rocker "Italian Girls" soars into a mandolin-driven coda. The covers — whether a soulful reading of Jimi Hendrix's "Angel," an empathetic version of Dylan's "Mama, You Been on My Mind," or a stunning interpretation of Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind" — are equally effective, making Never a Dull Moment a masterful record. He never got quite this good ever again.
