Das stark autobiographisch geprägte Album aus dem Jahr 1972 sollte zum kommerziellen Durchbruch für Carly Simon werden. Die Songs selbst enthalten eine derartige Menge an sexuellen Anspielungen und Reflexionen der eigenen, dahingehend sehr bewegten Vergangenheit. Ihre Hochzeit mit James Taylor stand bevor und Carly Simon war nun der Meinung mit einigen Dingen der Vergangenheit abschließen zu können. Der Hit You are so Vain führte zu jahrelangen Diskussionen, wer denn eigentlich gemeint sein könnte und ob Mick Jagger als Hintergrund-Sänger wohl ein Zufall war.
Um sich das Stirnrunzeln bei Amerikanischen Konservativen vorstellen zu können, sollte man sich die folgenden Songzeilen einmal zu Gemüte führen und dabei daran denken, dass Carly Simon aus einer New Yorker Oberklassefamilie stammte und ihr Vater ein bekannter Verleger war.

Die Liste der Musiker auf diesem Album enthält auch noch James Taylor, Bonnie Bramlett, Doris Troy und Paul und Linda McCartney. Am Bass hören wir Klaus Voormann. Für Tontechniker Kevin Gray war das ReMastering des analogen Masterbandes jedoch eine Herausforderung, denn das Masterband bestand aus Einzelteilen in verschiedenen Studios eingespielter Teilstücke, die bei einigen Songs sogar innerhalb des Songs hin und her wechselten. An der Mischung des Ursprungsalbums waren gleich drei Tonmeister beteiligt und das schlussendliche Album wurde mit deutlicher Kompression auf Platte gebracht und diese Kompression findet sich auf früheren Digitalveröffentlichungen. Diese 24-Karat-Gold CD hingegen hat den tatsächlichen Dynamikumfang des Masterbandes.

Das klangliche Endergebnis ist ein warmer 70er Jahre Sound und es empfiehlt sich die Abhörlautstärke etwas zu erhöhen und sich das beiliegenden Textbuch zum Mitlesen bereit zu halten. Die Audio Fidelity Version erscheint als Limited Edition mit fortlaufender Nummerierung.

No Secrets," with its iconic cover image, is Carly Simon's third studio album and her first #1.
Released in 1972, the record spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard charts. "No Secrets" blends the best of her pop/jazz/bluesy style and spawned four Top 20 hits including the #1 smash "You're So Vain," her powerhouse diatribe to a smug, conceited ex, featuring the back-up vocals of Mick Jagger. "The Right Thing to Do" was another major single, and one of her most gorgeous ballads ever.

No one can mistake that voice, which has become one of the most recognizable and endearing in all of pop music. Richard Perry's simple, elegant production pays particular attention to the vocals that run the gamut of sweet to ferocious. It seems Carly Simon knows, intuitively, how to properly emote the feelings of each song to the listener.

There are eight other excellent songs with strong melodies and Carly's incisive, trademark-clever lyrics, top-notch musical poetry lamenting the consequences, disappointments and achings of the soul.  Every song is perfect and as an ensemble, in their chronological order, compliment and accentuate each other. In a forthright, nakedly honest delivery, she sings of hurt and humiliation and betrayal while making all of it wonderfully palatable. "Waited So Long", a bluesy-rock number features Lowell George of Little Feat on slide guitar. Other guest performers include James Taylor, Bonnie Bramlett, Doris Troy and Paul and
Linda McCartney. 
 
This really is sophisticated pop at it's best.

Carly Simon's best album, No Secrets was also her commercial breakthrough, topping the charts and going gold, along with its leadoff single, "You're So Vain." That song set the album's saucy tone, with its air of sexually frank autobiography ("You had me several years ago/When I was still quite naïve") and its reflections on the jet-set lifestyle. But Simon's honesty meant that her lyrical knife was double-edged; now that she felt she had found true love ("The Right Thing to Do," another Top Ten hit, was her celebration of her relationship with James Taylor), she was as willing to acknowledge her own mistakes and regrets as she was to point fingers. But it wasn't only Simon's forthrightness that made the album work; it was also Richard Perry's simple, elegant pop/rock production, which gave Simon's music a buoyancy it previously lacked. And Perry paid particular attention to Simon's vocals in a way that made her more engaging (or at least less grating) to listen to.
